When I thought about writing this page the first thing that came to mind was that Sonny Bono movie when he felt the only
way to provide for his family the way he had intended was to take a flight and buy the cheap flight insurance and take a bomb
to blow up the plane. I know this is a morbid thought but many think along the same lines. Travel insurance is in case you
get killed on a trip.
Not only does travel insurance cover many other areas like flight cancellation, lost baggage,
dental, vision and evacuation emergencies. There are different styles like single trip, multi-trip and business packages.
Some offer coverage that extends to a rental car.
The evaciation coverage applies to having to be taken to a major
medical facility due to illness while away from home. These like many other unique circumstances are important to take care
of before you travel. The cost of being air lifted to the nearest hospital while far away from home may not be covered by
your policy at work. Most major medical policies do cover these incidents but many policies have exclusions to certain activities
that may be involved.
Sometimes a travel Visa may not be granted unless one has a travel major medical policy in
force before traveling abroad.
There are deductibles and co-pays to select from that can reduce the premium for
the higher options. For trip cancellation coverage, the prepaid costs plus any non-refundable fees are what the policy premium
is based on so that factor will cause the price to go up or down.
Most single trip travel policies can be purchased
up til the day before and even the day of travel but it is advised to purchase package policy 7-21 days before the First Trip
Payment Date which is the day money first changed for the trip you want to insure.
